Fences: Overcoming hurdles
This image is one of a series of NON-3D images created recently, using 2D in a way that I haven't approached in more than 15 years. Although 2 dimensional and far more cartoony than other work, it continues a certain colorful whimsical-ornate style that I have adopted in recent years in many 3D pieces. It also has a certain lightness that other work does not possess.

The image was first sketched on paper using black ink. The sketch was then scanned and each portion was carefully cut out with the bezier tool in Photoshop and then hand-painted using Painter 6 with an Intuos tablet. The hills were made in 3D, then composited behind the rest and retouched in Painter to achieve a more painterly look.

This image was created using the following software and hardware: Hewlett Packard scanner, Corel Painter 6, 3D Studio Max 3.1, Photoshop and Alien Skin plugin.
